Signing top-quality German talent has always been on the agenda for Bayern Munich. The current squad has a good spine of German players, which has helped Die Roten to win several trophies in the last few seasons. Rekordmeister will continue to follow this strategy in the coming seasons when they look to rejuvenate the spine of the squad.

Bayern has not signed a German player this summer, but they did contemplate a move for one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga. According to Bild, the club hierarchy at Bayern explored a move to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayern Leverkusen in the current transfer window.

The German Champions eventually decided against signing him for now since he is currently on the sidelines due to a cruciate ligament injury. Wirtz is expected to be back in action by September. Moreover, Wirtz recently signed a new deal until 2027 with Leverkusen.

Despite deciding against a move for Wirtz this year, Bayern remains interested in signing the young attacking midfielder in the future. The German Champions will keenly follow his return to action as he faces a race against time to be on the flight to Qatar for the World Cup in November.

Considering the long contract of Wirtz, Bayern will have to pay a big fee to sign the young German talent in the future. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder could be well worth the fee if he continues to deliver performances as he did in the last two seasons. He managed to contribute with 13 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen had managed to get a big fee from Chelsea for Kai Havertz in 2020. They will be looking for a similar fee for Wirtz in the future. Even though Bayern has quality talents like Jamal Musiala and Paul Wanner in the number ten role, Wirtz still has a good chance of playing in Bavaria after a couple of seasons at Leverkusen.

As things stand, Bayern’s immediate focus will be on resolving the future of Robert Lewandowski in the current transfer window. The Polish striker is pushing for a move to FC Barcelona. With the Bavarian club open to parting ways with the forward at a set transfer fee, Die Roten could explore the market for a new number nine.

Along with adding a striker to the squad, Bayern will also look to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. The negotiations with RB Leipzig will not be straightforward as they don’t want to lose a third player to Die Roten in the last 18 months. Another center-back signing is also not ruled out by Bayern. The Bavarian club will ignite the pursuit of Wirtz in the future as they have other areas to address this summer.
