The pre-season at Bayern Munich is set to begin in July. After three years, Die Roten will be going on tour as the pandemic restricted travelling since 2020. The pre-season tour is set to be crucial for several young players as they look to make a case for a role in the first-team squad under Julian Nagelsmann.

Tanguy Nianzou has endured two difficult years at Bayern after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020. The young French defender was considered one of the promising defensive talents in Europe. However, injuries and poor form have stalled the development of the French defender.

The upcoming pre-season tour is a very important phase for Nianzou’s career at Bayern. According to Sky Sports (via iMiaSanMia), Nagelsmann is set to give Nianzou chances to impress during pre-season. The German coach and Die Roten will take a call on his future by August.

It remains to be seen whether a loan or permanent transfer will be considered if Nianzou struggles during the pre-season. The French defender has been previously linked with loan moves, but the departure of Niklas Sule had suggested that Nianzou will have a role to play next season as one of the four central defenders in the squad.

After missing most of the debut season, Nianzou had an ordinary second campaign. He made some poor mistakes whenever Nagelsmann gave him opportunities in the Bundesliga. In the center-back’s defense, he never got an extended run in the team to get some rhythm and continuity in his game.

Hasan Salihamidzic has backed Tanguy Nianzou to be a crucial player for Bayern in the future on several occasions. It will be a big surprise if Die Roten decides to give up so quickly on him. In the worst possible scenario, Nianzou will go out on loan if he has a poor pre-season.

A loan move will benefit Nianzou in the long run. He currently has three senior defenders ahead of him at Bayern. Even if delivers good performances during pre-season, Nianzou will not get adequate playing time next season. Going out on loan to a good environment where he will clock 2000 minutes or so for the season will help kickstart his career.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Bayern will make a move for a central defender this summer. After Niklas Sule rejected the contract offer at the start of the year, Die Roten was linked with several defenders. However, things have slowed down in the center-back position as Bayern has mainly addressed other areas at the start of the window. If Nianzou goes out on loan, then the Bavarian club may have to look for a short-term option in this position.
