Bayern Munich: Marc Roca seals a move to Leeds United
Things are moving at a good pace for Bayern Munich in the transfer window. The Bavarian club has managed to get crucial breakthroughs in deals for arrivals and departures this week. Marc Roca is one of the players from the senior team that has managed to seal a move away from Bayern before the start of pre-season training.
Leeds United confirmed the signing of Roca on Friday. The Spanish midfielder has signed a four-year deal with the English club. Roca completed the medicals earlier this week after two clubs reached an agreement over the transfer fee.
According to Sport1, Bayern will be getting a fixed fee of €12 million for Roca with a further €5 million in performance-related bonuses. Espanyol will reportedly get 20% of the profit made by Die Roten on the sale of Roca. The Spanish club could end up getting just over half a million as Bayern signed Roca for €9 million in 2020.
It is a very good deal for the German Champions. They have managed to earn a profit on a player that struggled for playing time during his two-year stay in Bavaria. Meanwhile, the move to England is also the perfect step for Roca to get back his career back on track after two challenging years with Die Roten.
Bayern brought Roca in 2020 after Espanyol was relegated from La Liga. He was signed to provide more cover in the number six position. However, poor luck, lack of faith from managers, and injuries meant Roca never got the right platform to showcase his talent. He ended up making only 24 appearances across two seasons in Bavaria. Roca was expected to leave Bavaria in January after struggling for playing time in the first half of the last season. However, he decided to stay at the club after ending the Hinrunde with a run of good performances. The return of other senior midfielders from injuries during Ruckrunde made sure that Roca had to look for a transfer to get consistent playing time at the top level.
Despite not being a successful signing at Bayern, Roca was always upbeat about his time in Bavaria. The Spaniard was never fazed about setbacks, which was shown in the parting words from Hasan Salihamidzic. The German club’s sporting director had nothing but praise for him in the club’s official statement.

Bayern has already bolstered the midfield department by signing Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax. The Bavarian club will not need a separate signing to replace Roca, but they remain interested in RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer. After concluding negotiations to sign Sadio Mane from Liverpool, Bayern may switch their attention to Laimer.
