The midfield department is set to get much-needed reinforcements at Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club has agreed a fee with Ajax for Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch midfielder is expected to complete his transfer to Bavaria later this week.

Along with Gravenberch, Bayern is also pushing ahead with plans to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. The Austrian midfielder has also entered the final year of his contract, but Leipzig is looking for a considerable fee, and they would prefer him to move abroad. The latest update on Die Roten’s pursuit of Laimer sounds promising.

According to TZ (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern is closing on a move for Laimer, with a fee expected to be around €20 million. The Austrian midfielder is keen on reuniting with Julian Nagelsmann at Die Roten after working together at Leipzig for two years.

Meanwhile, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has also insisted that talks are ongoing for the transfer of Laimer to Bayern. The Italian journalist has also quoted a similar fee that has been mentioned by TZ. It does look like Laimer’s transfer is likely to be sealed by the Bundesliga champions in the coming days.

Laimer can provide good cover for Joshua Kimmich. The German midfielder’s workload needs to be managed to keep him fresh for an entire season, and there needs to be healthy competition in the squad. Laimer also fits the bill of being a pressing machine that can help in improving Die Roten’s counter-pressing next season, a tactical area identified by Nagelsmann to make the team more solid next campaign.

The arrival of the Austrian midfielder could lead to more departures from the current squad. Corentin Tolisso bid goodbye to Bayern on Monday. The French midfielder is leaving Bavaria on a free transfer after arriving from Lyon five years ago.

Along with Tolisso, Marc Roca is also expected to leave Bayern in the summer. The Spanish midfielder has been recently linked with a move to Barcelona, while Eintracht Frankfurt is also very interested in him. The transfer fee received for Roca will most likely offset the outlay for Laimer.

Marcel Sabitzer is expected to stay in Bavaria next season despite being linked with other top European clubs. The Austrian midfielder had a tough debut season, but he is determined to have a good second campaign. With the arrival of Laimer and Gravenberch, Nagelsmann will have a good variety of midfield profiles in the squad. The German coach needs to find a way to give adequate playing time to everyone and get the best out of them in his desired systems.
