Benjamin Pavard

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has enjoyed a spectacular ascent from Bundesliga 2 with VfB Stuttgart to becoming the world champion in the space of over two years. Pavard’s move to Bayern was announced in January 2019 and he joined the Bavarian side for the 2019/20 season. That year he swelled his trophy collection to such levels that most players can only dream of over their careers. Pavard managed to win the treble in his debut season while playing consistently in the right-back position.

Until now, Pavard has played 119 matches for Bayern in the last three years, contributing with 5 goals and 11 assists. He had won four Bundesliga Titles, one DFB-Pokal, FIFA Club World Cup, and many other trophies for the club.

The French defender excels at reading the game and has an exceptional ability to anticipate passes. His ability to combine this with an incredible positional sense, well-timed tackling, and an excellent ability to close down opposing players in possession of the ball, which makes him one of the most consistent defenders in the Bundesliga.

The 26-year-old defender is capable of breaking one or two lines of defense with forward passes. He has also shown some ability to step into the midfield while in possession of the ball. Die Roten had paid a fee close to 35 million for Pavard. With his consistency and versatility, he has certainly repaid the club’s trust. Pavard is likely to get even better next season since he will be playing in the heart of the defense for Bayern Munich.
