Bayern Munich finished their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday in a 2-2 draw away at Wolfsburg. The lack of consistency in performances for Die Roten continues since the start of 2022. The Bavarian side conceded the goal in the match as Jonas Wind showed great awareness in the box. The visitors couldn’t gather themselves and make a comeback in the game which ended in a draw. Let us look at the key takeaways from the game.
Decent performance by the Backline
Ever since Jerome Boateng and David Alaba left the club last season, the German Champions have constantly faced a lack in depth in the backline. They do have players for the future as Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez continue to forge a good partnership. The French duo had delivered decent performances against Wolfsburg despite the team conceding two poor goals.
Interestingly, Bayern’s young talent Josip Staniisic also had a good afternoon in Wolfsburg. In a rare start, the Croatian defender made many important interceptions and clearances throughout his stay on the pitch. He ended up opening the scoring for the Bavarian club. A solid performance from the defensive unit remains a work in progress.
Robert Lewandowski ends the campaign in Style
The Polish Striker ended another season by scoring Bayern’s last goal for this campaign. Lewandowski managed to score 35 goals in 34 matches and also had three assists in this campaign. He was very creative up front on Saturday, and besides his amazing goal, the striker had a couple of good chances to add more goals to his tally.
Lewandowski also played some delicious passes in the final third. The 33-year-old striker continues to defy age and maintain a ridiculous consistency. Hopefully, the management will find ways to keep Lewandowski in the next season as it will be difficult for the club to fill his boots.
Joshua Kimmich delivers a top-notch performance
Undoubtedly, Joshua Kimmich was the best midfielder in the park against Wolfsburg. He created many chances for his teammates and dominated the proceeding from the word go. The German midfielder delivered a pinpoint cross from the corner to set up the goal for Josip Stanisic. Kimmich’s also played a couple of great through passes, but his teammates could not capitalize on them.
Kimmich had a pass accuracy of more than 90% in the match, which included a great number of passes playing in attacking moves. The German midfielder was also defensively solid, making crucial interceptions and winning most of the duels he participated in.
