Julian Nagelsmann will be pleased with the outcome of his first Bundesliga season with Bayern Munich. The German coach managed to guide the team to a successful title defense. It was also the first league win of his career. However, the current Die Roten team remains a work in progress under Nagelsmann. It is far from a typical Nagelsmann team.
While the league title victory is a great achievement but winning just one trophy in a season at Bayern is far from ideal. The cup exits will be hurting Nagelsmann. Defeats are part and parcel of the game, but the manner of defeats against Gladbach and Villarreal in cup games is a cause of concern for Nagelsmann.
The German coach will be looking to improve the team during the transfer window. With the transfers of Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch close to completion, Die Roten will have more quality in right-back and midfield, respectively.
Along with improving the personnel, Julian Nagelsmann has also identified a key tactical area where his team needs to improve. While talking to the media to SID on Sunday (via iMiaSanMia), Nagelsmann admitted that his team needs to be better at counter-pressing. He also insisted that new additions will definitely help in improving this tactical area of the team.
"“Our problems in counter-pressing can be solved with the existing players, but I don’t mind if we buy one or two ‘pressing machines’.”"
Die Roten has largely struggled in executing good counter-pressing during Ruckrunde. At times in the first half of the season, the counter-pressing was right on the money for Die Roten. The next step for Nagelsmann is to make it a regular feature of the team’s performance from next season.
On the back of Nagelsmann’s comments, it is not surprising to see Die Roten targeting a move for Konrad Laimer. The Austrian midfielder is good at winning the ball, which will make him an ideal fit for Rekordmeister. The current squad will also get a complete pre-season with Nagelsmann, so performances are expected to improve next season.
Julian Nagelsmann has also installed a big screen on the training ground at Sabner Strasse. The German coach has used a similar setup at Hoffenheim to provide tactical input to players through video analysis during training.

Along with improving the team tactically, Nagelsmann will be looking to improve the players in the current squad. Increasing the output from wingers will be on the top of the list for Nagelsmann. Meanwhile, there is a lot of scope for improvement in various combinations at the back. After ending the campaign with the Bundesliga title, work begins for Nagelsmann to make the Bavarian club the best in the world.
