Bayern Munich has endured mixed results in the defense throughout the season. The defensive unit had a great run of form during Hinrunde when the team looked solid. However, things have not been plain-sailing for Bayern from a defensive point of view in the second half of the season.

Despite the inconsistent performances of the defensive unit in the Ruckrunde, Lucas Hernandez has been generally very good for Die Roten. It will not be wrong to say that Hernandez has been probably the most consistent center-back for Rekordmeister throughout the season. Niklas Sule had good Hinrunde, but his form did plummet since the start of 2022.

After a struggle with injuries in his debut season, Hernandez has slowly and steadily improved at Die Roten. He has managed close to 2000 minutes in the Bundesliga this season, making him one of the most used first-team players under Julian Nagelsmann.

Hernandez’s consistent performance for Rekordmeister this season will definitely attract attention from various top clubs in Europe. According to Sport in Spain, Hernandez is one of the dream signings for FC Barcelona, but it will be difficult for them to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Bayern has moved quickly to squash this speculation. According to Sport1, sources at the club insist that they have no plans to listen to offers for the French defender. The club’s strict stance does insist that they consider Lucas Hernandez as one of the key players in the squad.

Hernandez’s current deal at Die Roten will expire at the end of 2023/24. The Bavarian club will definitely look to open talks for a contract extension next season. The French defender is expected to get better as he enters the prime of his career.

The Bavarian club will be relying on the partnership between Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez in the heart of the defense at least for the next five years. Benjamin Pavard will become an option in the central defense from next season, while Tanguy Nianzou will also get more opportunities next season after the departure of Niklas Sule.

Die Roten currently has a good group of central defenders in the first team. They may look to add more quality in this position at the end of next season. For now, the new defensive addition in the upcoming window will be in the right-back position. Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui will be adding more quality in the right-back area of the squad.
