Bayern Munich monitoring promising Ajax defender

At the start of 2022, Bayern Munich was linked with several center-backs. The speculation was much more intense after Niklas Sule confirmed a summer transfer to Borussia Dortmund. The German international was leaving Die Roten on a free transfer after rejecting the contract offer from the club.

After being linked with numerous center-back, things have gone quiet for Die Roten regarding this position in the current squad. The Bavarian squad is thinking about moving Benjamin Pavard to central defense from next season, while Nianzou Kouassi will get more opportunities in the first team.

Even though it looks certain that Die Roten will not sign a center-back in the summer, they will keep monitoring some of the promising young talents in this position. The Bavarian club may have to add more quality in this position at the end of the next season.

In terms of monitoring young defenders, Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is attracting the attention of Bayern Munich. According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern scouts have been impressed by the development of Timber at Ajax. The 20-year-old defender is a transfer target for the club in the future.

Jurrien Timber has delivered impressive performances under Erik Ten Hag at Ajax this season. Along with doing well in the heart of the defense, the youngster has also managed to impress in the right-back position. His versatility in the back four makes him an even more valuable defender.

The young Dutch central defender has two years left on his contract at Ajax. The Dutch club will command a significant fee in the summer. If he decides to stay in Eredivisie for next season, then Ajax may try to extend his contract to protect value. Nevertheless, Timber will definitely be an expensive defender in the next couple of transfer windows.

Die Roten may have to be proactive if they want to secure the services of Timber. The Dutch defender is attracting interest from Manchester United. Ten Hag will reportedly take Timber along with him to Manchester United in the summer. Bayern will find it difficult to sign him from United in the future.

Bayern is currently negotiating with Ajax to complete the signing of Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch midfielder is the top target for Die Roten to strengthen the midfield department. Along with Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui is also expected to move from Ajax to Bavaria in the summer. The Moroccan defender is set to become the first-choice right-back at the German club from next season.
