Bayern Munich: Top three performers from 3-1 Der Klassiker victory

Bayern Munich secured a tenth consecutive Bundesliga title on Saturday with a 3-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the latest edition of Der Klassiker. It was a complete team effort from Bayern in their 24th league win of the season as three different players scored and three different players registered assists. Here are the top three performers from the massive victory.

Serge Gnabry

Gnabry scored the top goal of the match in the 15th minute with a fantastic strike that will surely also be one of the top goals of the weekend in the Bundesliga. With his goal on Saturday, Serge Gnabry has now scored in three of Bayern’s last four Bundesliga matches. He has certainly played a key role in the recent five-match winning streak in the league for Bayern Munich and his performance against Dortmund helped the club secure the Bundesliga title.

The top-class goal from Gnabry was his 13th goal of the Bundesliga season which is his career-best goal tally in the league. During the 2019/20 campaign, Gnabry had scored 12 goals in 31 appearances but he now has a new career-best goal total with still three matches remaining in the current season. He currently has the second-most goals for Bayern in the Bundesliga this season as Robert Lewandowski will most certainly finish as the club’s top scorer.

Robert Lewandowski

The Bayern striker scored yet another goal against Dortmund this season to help guide Bayern to victory. After scoring two goals against Dortmund on Matchday 14, Lewandowski played a key role once more in Der Klassiker with his 34th-minute goal. In addition to his goal, Lewandowski produced the most shots of any player on the pitch with four shots in total.

With his goal on Saturday, Lewandowski has now scored 33 goals so far this season for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. He needs to score just two more goals in the last three matches to record the second-best Bundesliga goal tally of his career in the league. Lewandowski scored 34 goals during the 2019/20 campaign and he will have the opportunity to surpass that number in the weeks to come.

Jamal Musiala

For the second consecutive match, Musiala was able to make an impact as a second-half substitute. The Bayern player entered in the 63rd minute and scored in the 83rd minute to give his club a 3-1 advantage. It was another impressive performance from Bayern’s rising star who recorded his fifth goal of the Bundesliga season. Musiala just needs to score one more goal this season to equal his goal total from last season’s league campaign.
