After the elimination from the Champions League, Bayern Munich will be focussing on building the squad for bouncing back strongly in the European competition next season. Along with signing quality players in the summer, the Bavarian club also has to extend deals of crucial members of the first team.

The ongoing week is set to witness a significant breakthrough in negotiations with the three senior players for the contract renewals. Die Roten could also end up announcing these contract renewals before the end of the season.

According to Sky Sport, Bayern and Manuel Neuer are close to reaching an agreement for a new contract. The German goalkeeper is set to get a two-year extension on his current deal. Neuer has been eager to spend the rest of his career in Bavaria, so it is not surprising to see that negotiations are close to completion.

Neuer’s current deal is set to expire in 2023. After signing the new deal, Neuer will be staying in Bavaria at least until the end of the 2024/25 season. It remains to be seen whether his playing time will be managed in the next few seasons as the club will be looking to bring in a long-term replacement for him.

Along with Neuer, Sky Sports is also reporting that Sven Ulreich is close to signing a one-year contract extension. The German goalkeeper was set to be out of contract in June, but Die Roten has decided to keep him on for one more year. Ulreich will remain the deputy for Neuer for at least one more year.

With Neuer and Ulreich staying beyond this season, Bayern is unlikely to sign a backup goalkeeper. The Bavarian club has been consistently linked with Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega this season, but a move looks unlikely now. Alexander Nubel will remain on loan at Monaco. His future in Bavaria will be decided at the end of the next season.

Sky Sports also confirmed this week that Thomas Muller is also close to signing a new deal. The German forward has just over 12 months on his current deal. The Bavarian club is eager to keep Muller, while the German forward also wants to keep playing at his boyhood club.

After completing these three deals, Die Roten will turn their attention to completing renewals of Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski. The negotiations with Gnabry have dragged on for months as he is looking for a significant hike in his wages. Meanwhile, the negotiation with Lewandowski will be complex since he is open to leaving Bavaria in the summer. Bayern will be looking to find a breakthrough in talks with both forwards in the coming weeks.
