After the elimination from the Champions League against Villarreal on Tuesday, Bayern Munich shifts attention to retaining the Bundesliga title. They have a lead of nine points with five games to go in the league. Meanwhile, the club hierarchy should start executing transfer plans to bolster the first team for the next season.

The Bavarian club also needs to find solutions for the contract renewals of senior players. Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller look certain to stay at the club. The German duo’s current deal is set to expire in 2023, but both are keen to extend their stay in Bavaria.

Apart from Neuer and Muller, Robert Lewandowski is also up next for a new deal. The Polish striker has been waiting for contract talks from the start of the season, but the club hierarchy has deliberated over starting negotiations for a new deal.

The lack of contract talks with Lewandowski has led to immense speculation surrounding his future. In the past couple of days, it has been revealed by various reports across Europe that the Polish striker is open to leaving Die Roten and joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The defending Bundesliga champions will not allow Lewandowski to leave easily as they reportedly look to get a monumental fee for him. Even though he has just over a year left on his deal, Die Roten will try to get a big fee if they end up selling him. The Polish striker is currently the best number nine in the world, and he is showing no signs of decline.

According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern is keeping a close eye on numerous strikers in case Lewandowski leaves in the summer. RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko, Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick are some of the strikers followed by Die Roten. The German club is unlikely to be involved in the race to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund since he will be very expensive.

Meanwhile, Sport1 has reported that Bayern is also closely monitoring Benfica’s Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker has been in fine form for Benfica this season. He has been attracting interest from various top clubs in Europe.

In an ideal scenario, Die Roten manages to keep Lewandowski for next season. It will be very difficult to find a replacement for him as he scores at an incredible rate. However, this summer could be the last opportunity for the German club to cash in if Lewandowski rejects a new deal. The final few weeks of the season will give a clear picture about how this saga is going to pan out in the summer.
