It is an important week for Bayern Munich in the Champions League. After last week’s unsuccessful trip to Spain in the Champions, Die Roten will be hosting Villarreal in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday. The Spanish side is currently leading on aggregate after last week’s narrow 1-0 win in the first leg against Rekordmeister.

Bayern will have to be at their best from minute one to make a comeback against Villarreal. The Spanish side was unfortunate to win by only one goal last week as they created numerous chances and managed to keep Die Roten quiet in the final third for most of the game.

The defending Bundesliga champions will have to win the game on Tuesday without Niklas Sule. According to Kicker, Sule is set to miss Tuesday’s crucial Champions League game due to illness. The German international had missed the game against Augsburg on Saturday since he was suffering from flu. He is unlikely to recover in time to face Villarreal.

The last few weeks have been very frustrating for Niklas Sule. He couldn’t play for Germany during the international break after suffering a minor injury just before the last round of friendly games. Sule made his return to action with a short cameo from the bench against Freiburg. The German defender also started on the bench against Villarreal in the first leg. Just when he was close to getting a start, he was down with the illness.

Niklas Sule has been one of the most improved players under Julian Nagelsmann. He was one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga during Hinrunde. The second half of the season has been a mixed bag for Sule. He will be hoping to return to action soon and contribute for Die Roten in the next month and a half before moving to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Apart from Sule, Corentin Tolisso will also miss the game against Villarreal. The French midfielder is sidelined due to a muscle injury. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr are also unlikely to be fit for the game against the Spanish side.

Meanwhile, Lucas Hernandez will be available for selection against Villarreal. The French defender didn’t feature against Augsburg, but Kicker has insisted that he will be fit for the Champions League game against Villarreal.

If completely fit, Hernandez will start in the central defense against Unai Emery’s team on Tuesday. He will be accompanied by Dayot Upamecano in the heart of the defense. The French duo will have to make sure that Villarreal doesn’t score on Tuesday to give his side the best chance to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League.
