Bayern Munich: Nagelsmann backs Leroy Sane to rediscover form
The quest for the tenth consecutive Bundesliga title remains on track for Bayern Munich after a narrow victory against Augsburg on Saturday. Robert Lewandowski converted a late penalty to claim all three points for Die Roten. Courtesy of this win, Bayern remains nine points clear at the top of the points table.
Julian Nagelsmann made a few changes to the starting XI on Saturday. Leroy Sane was back in the team after missing out on a starting berth in the defeat against Villarreal in Spain on Wednesday. The German winger couldn’t do enough against Augsburg to get a place in the starting XI for the next week’s crucial Champions League game against Villarreal.
After a poor 65 minutes against Augsburg, Sane was brought off for Kingsley Coman. The German winger was visibly frustrated with the substitution. The frustration is likely due to his substitution and unconvincing individual performance on Saturday.
Nagelsmann had to answer questions related to Sane after the game. While talking to Sport1 after the win against Augsburg, the German coach acknowledged the recent form of Sane. Nagelsmann has backed the German winger to get over this rough patch and get back to his best for Die Roten.
"“He knows that he can play better than in the last two games – and he will. He has my full support, as well as my maximum sympathy and empathy.”“I like Leroy very much as a person and as a player. Everyone knows that he has incredible qualities.”"
After a difficult debut season in Bavaria, Leroy Sane has been delivering good performances under Julian Nagelsmann. The German coach decided to move Sane to the left flank and give him the freedom to play as an inside forward. This modification in Sane’s position has made sure that he has become more productive in the final third.
The German winger has managed to score 14 goals across all competitions. He also has 13 assists to his name, which takes his goal contribution tally to 27 for the season. By the end of the season, Sane will be hoping to at least go past 30 goal contributions.

The overall numbers for the German winger have been incredible this season, but the last five games have been poor. The German winger last contributed to the goal at the start of March during the comfortable victory against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.
In the game against Augsburg, Leroy Sane managed to accumulate an xG of 0.02 from one shot. Providing an assist was also a far-fetched situation for Sane in this game, as his xA for the game was 0.03. Nagelsmann and the Bavarian faithful will be hoping that Sane will get back to his best sooner rather than later. With the crucial game coming up against Villarreal on Tuesday, it will be an ideal time for Sane to find the back of the net. (Stats courtesy: Fotmob)
