Strongest back four to start for Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer had very little to do against Freiburg, but he still left a mark on the game by helping in smoothly playing out from the back. The German shot-stopper has the habit of delivering big performances in the Champions League, so the Bavarian faithful will be expecting a clean sheet from him on Wednesday.

Lucas Hernandez has been in fine form for Bayern this season. The French defender has done an adequate job of filling in the left-back position and excelled as a center-back. Hernandez should be the first name on the sheet for the center-back position against Villarreal.

The other center-back for Die Roten on Wednesday is likely to be Niklas Sule. The German international has returned to his best under Nagelsmann this season. He had a small cameo against Freiburg since he was returning from a minor injury. The German defender should be fit to start against the Spanish club on Wednesday.

Julian Nagelsmann hinted at the return of Alphonso Davies to the starting lineup during his pre-match press conference. The Canadian left-back has been on the sidelines for three months due to myocarditis, but he is now completely fit to play competitive football. His return will bring more balance to Die Roten’s team. Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard is expected to start in the right-back position.
