Bayern Munich: Five things to watch for against Freiburg
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich begins their April schedule on Saturday against Freiburg. The current Bundesliga leaders enter Matchday 28 with a six-point advantage in the table and are nearing another league title with just seven matches remaining. Saturday’s match could be a difficult test in the quest for the league title as Freiburg has not lost a Bundesliga match since Matchday 21. Here are five things to watch for in Bayern’s away match against Freiburg.
A strong home record for Freiburg
Freiburg has recorded one of the strongest home records in the Bundesliga this season. They have taken 25 points from 13 home fixtures with a record of 7-4-2. Their last defeat at home was to Hoffenheim on Matchday 15. Since that loss to Hoffenheim, Freiburg has won four of their last six home matches.
Can Robert Lewandowski move closer to the 40 goal mark?
With a two-goal performance in the 4-0 victory over Union Berlin on Matchday 27, Lewandowski surpassed the 30 goal mark this season to reach 31 goals scored. The Bayern striker needs to score ten goals in the last seven league matches of the season to tie his Bundesliga goal total from last season and needs nine goals to reach the 40 goal mark. Having scored six goals in his last five Bundesliga appearances against Freiburg, Lewandowski certainly could add to his season goal total on Saturday.
The two best defensive records in the Bundesliga
When it comes to conceding goals in the Bundesliga, Bayern and Freiburg have allowed the fewest number of goals in the league. Bayern enters this match having conceded just 28 goals and Freiburg has allowed only 29 goals. The two clubs are also tied for the league lead in clean sheets recorded this season along with Mainz. Both Bayern and Freiburg have registered nine clean sheets thus far in the Bundesliga.
Joshua Kimmich contributing assists
Kimmich has been one of Bayern’s top players in recent weeks in assists. He has recorded three assists in his last four Bundesliga appearances for Bayern. The midfielder ranks third in assists for Bayern in the Bundesliga with a total of six assists in 21 appearances. He needs to record four more assists to tie his assist total from last season when he contributed ten assists in 27 appearances.

Leroy Sane’s goal involvement against Freiburg
In his last three appearances against Freiburg, Leroy Sane has scored one goal and recorded two assists. The Bayern player registered one of his seven Bundesliga assists this season in the 2-1 victory against Freiburg earlier this season. With seven goals and seven assists recorded in the league entering this match, another goal or assist against Freiburg will move Sane closer to his first season of either double-digit assists or goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern.
