Bayern Munich decide against contract renewal of Corentin Tolisso
Bayern Munich has stepped up efforts to add more quality in the midfield department. The German club has initiated talks with Ajax to negotiate a deal for young midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. The teenage midfield sensation is reportedly eager to seal a move to Bavaria in the summer.
Gravenberch is expected to be a replacement for Corentin Tolisso. The French midfielder is set to leave Bavaria in the summer when his current deal comes to an end in June. Previously, Bayern had confirmed contract talks with Tolisso, but it does look like wage demands have scuppered the possible renewal.
According to SportBild, Tolisso was looking to earn €12 million per year in his new deal, which is €4 million more than what he is currently earning in Bavaria. Considering the fitness record of Tolisso over the last three seasons, it would have been a huge financial gamble for Rekordmeister to go ahead with this contract renewal.
Tolisso enjoyed a brilliant debut season in Bavaria after sealing a then club-record transfer from Lyon in 2017. Things started going downhill for him when he suffered a serious ligament injury in 2018 after winning the World Cup with France. Tolisso missed the entire 2018/19 season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
After the ACL injury in 2018, Tolisso has consistently spent time on the sideline for various injuries. He was able to deliver quality performances but couldn’t remain fit for a long time to cement his place in the starting. The likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Thiago Alcantara moved ahead of him in the pecking order.
Tolisso has delivered good performances under Julian Nagelsmann this season, but he also had a couple of lengthy spells on the sidelines due to injuries. He will be hoping to end his Bayern career with a bang as Nagelsmann’s team is chasing Bundesliga and Champions League glory.
A fresh start away from Bavaria can help Corentin Tolisso to kickstart his career. He is in the peak of his career, so there is enough time to make up for the missed time due to injuries in the past three seasons. The French midfielder has already attracted interest from Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, and Atletico Madrid this season. He can definitely secure a very good move when the window opens at the end of the season.

For the time being, Corentin Tolisso will be focussing on playing most of the games for Bayern in the next couple of months. He has recovered from the latest muscle injury and is available for selection for the game against Freiburg on Saturday.
