A former PSG youth graduate and currently a part of the Bayern Munich squad, defender Tanguy Nianzou is seen to be the next big defensive talent for the German club.

Nianzou came through PSG’s youth academy. The promising French defender impressed for the senior team as he made his debut for the Parisian club’s first team in December 2019 against Montpellier. He became the youngest-ever PSG player to make a Champions League appearance later on.

Thomas Tuchel reportedly wanted to keep Nianzou at the club, but Bayern acted quickly to seal his signing on a free transfer in 2020. He struggled with injuries during the 2020/21 campaign but managed to show glimpses of his talent in the last 18 months.

Julian Nagelsmann has been impressed by Nianzou’s ability in the air and aggressive approach on and off the ball. Nianzou also has an impressive passing range, making him an ideal modern center-back. Former Die Roten defender Jerome Boateng was impressed with the qualities of Nianzou when the duo trained together during the 2020/21 campaign.

"“He’s quick and good in tackles, he recognizes situations. He’s even better in the air than I was at his age.”"

Also, his former coach at Fontainebleau described his heading game as “absolutely incredible” and. In 2021/22, he appeared 17 times for the Bavarian club with a goal and an assist to his name throughout all competitions. Nianzou may go out on loan in the summer to get more consistent playing time, but he definitely has a big role to play at Die Roten in the future.
