Bayern Munich can finally beat Barcelona for a right-back
The summer of 2020 was difficult for Bayern Munich as they struggled to get their top transfer targets. After winning the Champions League, the Bavarian club was expected to bolster the squad to mount a credible defense of the European title. However, Die Roten ended up scrambling for backup options in the final week of the window.
The right-back position was one of the priorities for Rekordmeister in 2020. Bayern was expected to seal the transfer of Sergino Dest from Ajax. The young right-back had confirmed the interest of the Bavarian club and looked eager to seal the move. However, Barcelona swooped in and completed a move quickly even before Die Roten could react.
Fast forward two years, Bayern is still looking for a right-back. The German club is once again competing with Barcelona for a right-back from Ajax. It does look like the Bavarian club will win the battle this time.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern has made a very attractive offer to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax. Barcelona continues to insist that work is being done to sign the Moroccan right-back, but the Spanish club admits that there is strong competition from Die Roten.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany is reporting that Bayern has played their cards well to sign Mazraoui. The 24-year-old right-back has a great chance of moving to Bavaria after Die Roten presented an improved second offer.
Die Roten has struggled to sign a right-back in the last two summer windows, so they will be eager to get a deal for Mazraoui over the line. There will be no negotiations with Ajax for this transfer since Mazraoui will become a free agent at the end of June. It does look like Rekordmeister has offered a big wage packet to convince the right-back.
Earlier this season, it was reported that Barcelona has been upset with Bayern due to the German club’s persistent efforts to sign Pedri and Dest. The Bavarian club was not successful in getting either player. The Catalan club will be miffed if Bayern ends up hijacking their move for Mazraoui. The German club will consider it as a payback for the deal for Dest.

From a sporting point of view, Mazraoui will be a quality signing for Die Roten. They have lacked cutting edge on the right flank since Benjamin Pavard is a conservative full-back. Mazraoui will provide more quality on the ball and make Die Roten a much more complete side.
