Bayern Munich: Kingsley Coman set to play wing-back role for France
The upcoming international break will finally see Kingsley Coman get some regular playing time with France. Coman has been one of the standout performers for Bayern Munich in the past few months. A talent of his caliber should be a regular for the French national team. However, the plethora of attacking options has made sure that Coman has been largely used from the bench.
Things could change for Coman during the current international break. He will get a chance to establish himself as an important player in a completely different position. According to L’Equipe, Coman is set to start in the wing-back position for France during the upcoming friendly games.
Coman has operated in the wing-back role for Bayern in the past few months. The French winger has been lethal in the final third as his decision-making continues to get better. Coman has also learned to score more goals, making him a very valuable player from the wing-back role.
From the defensive point of view, Coman’s immense work rate helps him to perform well in the wing-back position. Julian Nagelsmann has been particularly pleased by Coman’s incredible work rate and defensive contributions.
Coman has got the ideal preparation for this role as he excelled in this position under Julian Nagelsmann. With the places in the front three occupied by other star forwards, the wing-back position offers Coman an opportunity to play regularly for France.
The French winger has developed well in the past couple of seasons. The major injury problems are behind for Coman as he looks destined to fulfill his potential for club and country. His consistent performances were rewarded by Rekordmeister with a long-term deal. Nagelsmann has also promoted Coman to the leadership group at the club.
Kingsley Coman couldn’t feature in the World Cup-winning squad during 2018. He will be hoping to make amends for it later this year and help France to defend their title in Qatar. If he fares well in the wing-back role, then Coman could become a certain starter ahead of the World Cup in November.

Lucas Hernandez is also likely to feature for France during the next couple of games. Hernandez has largely played as a left-back for France, but his role will change for upcoming games. The former Atletico Madrid defender will be playing in the heart of the defense, while Didier Deschamps uses wing-backs. Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard and Corentin Tolisso continue their recovery at Sabner Strasse.
