Bayern Munich: Top performers from emphatic win against Union Berlin
By Isaac Rivers
On Matchday 27 of the Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich hosted Union Berlin in hopes to end their streak of draws. Coming into this game with the defensive woes Bayern has been experiencing, made for an interesting build-up in having the likes of Benjamin Pavard and Niklas Sule ruled out. However, the league leaders were still able to come up with a very convincing win to extend their lead atop the table. Here are the top player performances from Bayern’s 4-0 win over Union Berlin.
Kingsley Coman
Nobody had more control of this game in the first half than Kingsley Coman. Starting off hot and early, Coman scored the opening goal in the 16th minute, and what a goal it was. From beyond the box, he fired a shot that rocketed straight into the top right corner of the net. Along with the goal, Coman had numerous wonderful displays of his skillful dribbling, including in the 26th minute when he took on three defenders, and the only way they could stop him was to bring him to the ground.
Coman’s determination showed in this game when in the 33rd minute after a ball had been played yards too far, yet Coman still managed to chase it down and deliver a brilliant cross into the box. Even though he had a quiet second half, Coman’s overall performance was one to remember.
Manuel Neuer
Regardless of the opponent, the team automatically gains a boost of confidence when captain Manuel Neuer is in goal. In his record-breaking 311th Bundesliga victory, Neuer managed to hold his own for his first clean sheet since returning from injury.
With facing five shots and coming away with five saves, the most impressive came in the 53rd minute. Catching Neuer off-guard with a Union shot from distance drew a last-ditch effort that saw him crawling across the face of the goal, miraculously keeping the ball out of the net. A historic and impressive win for Neuer.
Robert Lewandowski
Another game, another world-class performance from star-striker Robert Lewandowski. With three shots, three on target, the Polish international was able to bag yet another brace this season, bringing his goal tally to 31. This feat is something Lewandowski has now accomplished in five different seasons, equaling the record held by Bayern legend Gerd Muller.

Lewandowski’s first goal came by way of penalty after being taken out by Union keeper Andreas Luthe right before the halftime whistle. The second came in a more impressive fashion with Lewandowski scoring just a minute after the second half kicked off. With a brace and a new record to his name, Lewandowski is rightfully today’s Man of the Match.
Bayern Munch will be looking to turn that streak of draws into a hefty streak of wins in their next game against SC Freiberg on April 2, after the upcoming international break.
