Bayern Munich: Alphonso Davies likely to miss CL quarter-finals
The last few days have been positive for Bayern Munich when it comes to developments on the recovery of injured players. Leon Goretzka has started training on the grass, while Corentin Tolisso is also very close to returning to the first-team training.
The best possible news for the Bavarian faithful was the return of Alphonso Davies. The Canadian left-back has finally started training on the pitch after spending two months on the sidelines due to myocarditis. However, fans will have to wait for more time to see Davies back in action at Allianz Arena.
According to TZ, Alphonso Davies is likely to miss the Champions League quarter-finals. The Bavarian club has not given any update on the return date for Davies. Die Roten has allowed the defender to take as much time needed to complete recovery. The recent medical checkups have confirmed that Davies is fit to start training on the pitch.
Davies has been a big miss for Rekordmeister in the last couple of months. It was not a big surprise to see much more inconsistency in the team’s performance since Davies provides great balance in the starting XI.
The Canadian left-back is a big threat in the final third due to his pace and trickery. He has slowly improved decision-making in the final third, which makes him an ideal modern full-back. Along with offering a threat in the attack, Davies also gives great defensive solidity on the left flank.
After a breakthrough 2019/20 season, Davies did struggle for consistency last year. However, the Canadian left-back came back strongly this campaign and delivered consistent performances under Julian Nagelsmann. Davies had a very productive Hinrunde from a personal and collective point of view.
Nagelsmann has tried different formations to compensate for the absence of Davies. The German coach has often used a back three with Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry as wing-backs. However, the results in various formations have been inconsistent. The German coach will be hoping that Davies returns as soon as possible. It will be a big boost for Die Roten if he at least manages to play in the second leg of the CL quarter-final.

Bayern will know their opposition for the next round of the Champions League once the second round of games is completed this week. Nagelsmann managed to get a strong response from his players in the last week’s second leg against RB Salzburg after a 1-1 draw in Austria at the end of February.
