The short-term and long-term plans for Bayern Munich in the goalkeeping department are likely to be executed in the next few months. In the short term, Rekordmeister is eager to extend the contract with Manuel Neuer. The veteran German goalkeeper has expressed his desire to end his playing career in Bavaria.
Meanwhile, Neuer’s number two Sven Ulreich is likely to leave in the summer. Ulreich’s contract in Bavaria is set to expire at the end of the current campaign. The 33-year-old goalkeeper wants to stay, but Die Roten has different ideas for Neuer’s deputy next season.
Earlier this week, SportBild reported that Bayern is interested in signing Stefan Ortega from Arminia Bielefeld. Ortega’s deal at Bielefeld is set to expire at the end of the season. The German club has offered him a new deal, but he is assessing all options.
Meanwhile, Kicker has reported that Die Roten has already held talks with Ortega regarding a summer move. Ortega’s arrival will definitely bring an end to Ulreich’s stay in Bavaria. He returned to Die Roten after one year spell at Hamburg. Rekordmeister signed Ulreich to replace Alexander Nubel as the former Schalke shot-stopper left Bavaria to join Monaco on a two-year loan deal. Along with Ulreich, third-choice goalkeeper Christian Fruchtl is also expected to leave in the summer.
Ortega has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga ever since Arminia Bielefeld was promoted to the first division. His good performances at Bielefeld have not gone unnoticed as Die Roten has been heavily linked with a move for him in the past couple of seasons.
Manuel Neuer is not going to give up playing time, so it remains to be seen whether Ortega is ready to sacrifice playing time to join Die Roten. The next couple of months will give a fair idea about Ortega’s plans as he runs downs his deal in Bielefeld.

Meanwhile, SportBild and Kicker also reiterate that Bayern wants to extend the contract with Alexander Nubel. The young German goalkeeper is enjoying consistent playing time in Ligue 1. He reportedly wants to spend next season in Monaco. If Neuer signs a new deal, then Nubel will assess his future in Bavaria.
SportBild also insists that Nubel will make a decision about his future in 2023. Bayern still considers him as a long-term successor of Neuer. Rekordmeister will have to convince Nubel that he will eventually become the number one at the club. The next few months are set to see a lot of changes in the goalkeeping department at Bayern.
