Bayern Munich: Five things to watch for against Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern Munich hosts Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday in what could be a very exciting match between the first and third place clubs in the Bundesliga. With an eight-point advantage in the league table entering Matchday 25, Bayern is closing on another Bundesliga title and Saturday’s match could prove to be a difficult challenge to maintain their lead. Here are five things to watch for ahead of the match.

Two top-scoring clubs

Bayern and Leverkusen are among the top clubs in the Bundesliga when it comes to scoring goals. With 75 goals scored in 24 matches, Bayern has recorded the most goals in the league while Leverkusen has registered the third most goals with 63 goals scored in 24 matches. Both clubs are certainly capable of scoring multiple goals in this match and it could turn out to be a fixture full of goals.

A fifth consecutive victory

Bayern has the opportunity to defeat Leverkusen for a fifth consecutive time in the Bundesliga. They have won the last four league meetings between the two clubs including a 5-1 victory earlier this season in October. The last time Leverkusen visited the Allianz Arena it was a 2-0 clean sheet victory for Bayern.

Robert Lewandowski nears 30 Bundesliga goals

Lewandowski can reach 30 Bundesliga goals scored in the current season with a two-goal performance on Saturday. The Bayern striker has scored four goals in his last two appearances against Leverkusen. In October, Lewandowski scored two goals against Leverkusen in the 5-1 win on Matchday Eight. With five goals in his last five league appearances, he will be one of the key players to watch for in this match.

Moussa Diaby leading the way for Leverkusen

One of the top players in the Bundesliga in recent weeks has been Diaby. In his last five Bundesliga appearances, Diaby has scored an incredible seven goals which have increased his season goal total to 12 goals. With 12 goals and seven assists registered so far, the 22-year-old winger is among the Bundesliga’s top offensive players in the current season. The Leverkusen player certainly has the potential to be one of the players who can play a key role in the outcome of the match.

Assist leaders

This match will feature the two players who have currently recorded the most assists in the Bundesliga this season. Bayern’s Thomas Muller has registered 16 assists while Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has recorded ten assists. It will be interesting to see if the veteran Bayern player will have the bigger impact in the match or if the rising star can help guide Leverkusen to a massive away victory.
