Bayern Munich: Three takeaways from 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich concluded their February schedule with a massive 1-0 away victory against Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite plenty of scoring attempts, only one goal was scored as Leroy Sane provided the winning goal in the 71st minute. The victory ensures Bayern will maintain their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table by at least six points entering Matchday 25. Here are three takeaways from the win over Frankfurt.
A massive clean sheet result
After going four consecutive Bundesliga matches without a clean sheet, Bayern was able to record their eighth league shutout of the season on Saturday night. It was a complete team effort to keep Frankfurt from scoring at home as they allowed just seven shots in the match. Bayern now needs just two more clean sheets to surpass their Bundesliga clean sheet total from last season which was nine shutouts.
Bayern has now conceded just 26 goals so far this season in the Bundesliga which is tied for the fewest number of goals allowed in the league. Freiburg is the other club that has conceded 26 goals and the two clubs are set to meet on Matchday 28. Defensively, Bayern is still capable this season of finishing with the fewest numbers of goals conceded and the most shutouts recorded.
Sane delivers the match-winning goal
Sane scored his seventh goal of the Bundesliga campaign to help Bayern achieve victory. It was a great run and finish by the winger as he made the most of the fantastic pass he received from Joshua Kimmich. Sane had an instant impact on the match as he entered as a substitute in the 67th minute and scored just minutes later.
With his seventh league goal of the season, Sane has now surpassed his Bundesliga goal total from last season when he scored six goals in 32 appearances. With eight Bundesliga matches remaining this season, Sane could be on the path to his first season of double-digit league goals for Bayern.
Another step closer to the title
This victory could prove to be a pivotal result in Bayern’s quest for another Bundesliga title. With upcoming fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim, it was crucial that Bayern earn all three points against Frankfurt as victories could be difficult to achieve in the coming weeks.
Having lost their two previous league matches against Frankfurt, Saturday was going to be a stern test for Bayern but they were up to the task and their victory moves them a step closer to recording another Bundesliga title.
