After Niklas Sule decided to join Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich has been linked with numerous center-backs. The Bavarian club has identified Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen as the top center-back target to replace Sule. However, the latest report from Germany suggests that Christensen may leave Chelsea for another European giant.

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona is leading the race to sign Christensen. The expectation at Chelsea is that the Danish defender will be playing in Spain, but Die Roten continues to show strong interest in him.

Meanwhile, SportBild has also confirmed that Die Roten is trailing Barcelona in the race to sign Christensen. The Bavarian club recently made a new offer to the Danish defender, but it was below his wage demands. It does look certain that Christensen will be leaving Chelsea in the summer.

Rekordmeister preferred Christensen over other options due to financial and sporting reasons. The Danish defender already has the experience of playing in the Bundesliga as he spent time on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach. He has shown great improvement at Chelsea with every passing season, and he is entering the peak years of his career.

From a financial point of view, Christensen wouldn’t have commanded a transfer fee. It would have been a big boost for Rekordmeister since Sule is also joining Dortmund on a free transfer. The Bavarian club will have to turn their attention to other options to replace Sule if Christensen has set his heart on the move to Barcelona.

Christensen’s Chelsea teammate- Antonio Rudiger, has also been linked with Die Roten. However, the most recent update on Bayern’s pursuit of Rudiger has suggested that the player’s wage demands will not fit in the club’s structure.

Apart from Rudiger, Mattias Ginter is also one of the transfer targets for Rekordmeister. The German defender is set to leave Borussia Monchengladbach when his contract ends in June. Die Roten will be facing competition from Inter Milan for the signing of Ginter.

In the past couple of weeks, Torino’s Gleison Bremer has emerged as a potential transfer target for Die Roten. The Brazilian defender will command a transfer fee since his contract with Torino expires in 2024.

Apart from signing a new center-back, Bayern can also move Benjamin Pavard permanently in the heart of defense to replace Sule. The Bavarian club is looking to sign a quality right-back in the summer, which will allow Pavard to play in the heart of the defense. Nevertheless, the next couple of months will give a much clear picture about the club’s plan to replace Sule.
