Throughout the current season, Bayern Munich has been trying to secure the future of key players in the squad. The Bavarian club successfully negotiated deals with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka at the start of the season. Both German midfielders will be spending peak years of their career in Bavaria.
After securing the future of the German midfield duo, Die Roten managed to find a breakthrough in talks with Kingsley Coman. This was a major coup for the club as talks had stalled with the French winger during the summer transfer window in 2021. Coman currently has the longest contract in the Bundesliga.
The defending Bundesliga champions successfully negotiated the first professional contract for Paul Wanner at the end of January. However, they couldn’t manage to convince Niklas Sule to sign a new deal. The German defender is set to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
Apart from these deals, Die Roten has also been negotiating a contract renewal with Serge Gnabry. There was great optimism in the German media about these negotiations. However, talks have been dragged into 2022 without any big breakthrough.
According to Kicker, Rekordmeister continues to hold talks with Gnabry’s entourage. There is a constant line of dialogue between both parties, but they remain far away from reaching an agreement. This report insists that significant wage demands and longer contract length are the sticking points in the negotiations with Gnabry.
Gnabry’s current deal is set to expire in 2023. The German winger has consistently insisted on his wish to achieve more success with Die Roten. It is now up to the Bavarian club to present the right financial package that will convince Gnabry to sign on the dotted line.
Serge Gnabry will definitely attract interest from various clubs across Europe if he doesn’t sign a new deal until the end of the season. Bayern will be forced to cash in during the next summer window instead of losing another senior player on a free transfer.
Gnabry is well within his rights to demand a similar pay package as Coman and Leroy Sane. He has been a key player in the first team over the last three seasons. After enduring a dip in numbers during last season, Gnabry has got back to his best under Julian Nagelsmann. The next couple of months will be crucial for deciding Gnabry’s long-term future in Bavaria.
