Two-man midfield returns for Bayern
Joshua Kimmich struggled against Bochum in the number six position. The German midfielder was all over the place defensively since he had to cover a lot of space. Nagelsmann will be looking to solve this problem by reverting to a two-man midfielder against RB Salzburg.
Leon Goretzka has been the ideal partner for Kimmich. The German international has been ruled out for this game as he continues to recover from a knee injury. Instead of Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso is likely to partner Kimmich in the center of the park. The two midfielders will provide much more protection to defense and stop Salzburg from executing dangerous counter-attacks.
Leroy Sane will continue to operate in the left-attacking wide role. The German winger largely occupies central zones despite starting as a left-winger on the paper. Sane has been very efficient for Die Roten in the final third this season, so Nagelsmann will be expecting a big performance from him on Wednesday.
Thomas Muller will be the other wide or central forward against Salzburg. Muller has been at his best in the number ten role for Die Roten this season. He will play in those small pockets between midfield and attack against Salzburg. The German international will also occasionally occupy the right flank. Robert Lewandowski will lead the line for the visitors on Wednesday.
