The last couple of weeks have been a roller-coaster ride for Bayern Munich. Niklas Sule rejected Die Roten’s contract offer and sealed a summer move to Borussia Dortmund. The Bavarian club is now exploring options to replace the German international in the squad.

It does look like Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger is no longer an option for Rekordmeister. According to Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Bayern is not weighing a move for Rudiger due to the high wage demands of the defender. Moreover, Rudiger is yet to make a final decision about his future at Chelsea.

Rudiger has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria since the start of the current campaign. The Bavarian club had reportedly touched base with Rudiger’s agents. One of the reports in Germany suggested that Rudiger’s wage demands will fit in the club’s structure. However, the current development suggests that the German defender is looking for a bigger contract.

In the last few weeks, Bayern has been, in fact, heavily linked with Rudiger’s teammate at Chelsea- Andreas Christensen. The Bavarian club has reportedly stepped up efforts to sign the Danish defender on a free transfer in the summer.

The next couple of months will give a clear picture regarding Sule’s replacement. Since Sule is leaving on a free transfer, Die Roten will preferably look for a defender that is running down the contract at their current club. The defending Bundesliga champions also have internal solutions to replace Sule in the squad.

Meanwhile, Kicker has reported that Rekordmeister has been unhappy with Sule’s approach towards managing his weight in the past few seasons. The German media outlet has insisted that Sule has often turned up heavy after a break, but he refused to give up his methods.

The report from Kicker does look like a damage limitation from Die Roten if the source is from the club. Sule has been the most consistent defender for Rekordmeister this season, and the club was eager to extend his contract. However, the German defender wanted a new adventure after Die Roten took too long to come up with an offer for a contract extension.

Former Bayern manager Hansi Flick is pleased for Sule after last week’s confirmation from Borussia Dortmund. The German coach believes that Sule’s move to Dortmund is good for the Bundesliga as a top defender will be spending prime years of his career in Germany. Sule will be hoping to bring an end to his time in Bavaria by helping the club in winning the Bundesliga and Champions League titles this season.
