The last decade has seen Bayern Munich enjoy a lot of domestic success. The Bavarian club is on its way to clinching the tenth Bundesliga title in a row as they went nine points clear at the top of the league table last weekend. It will take a monumental slip-up from Die Roten to not retain the league title this season.

The Bavarian faithful have enjoyed this success over the years, but Bundesliga has been often accused of being a poor league. Serial domination from a single team for such a long time does raise eyebrows for fans across the world. While Die Roten has enjoyed success due to their efficient model for transfers and player development, their rivals have often slipped at crucial junctures of various seasons to allow Bayern to come back in the title race.

Die Roten has also proved their worth in the Champions League, winning the title twice in the last decade. Despite their success in all competitions, there are always questions raised about the quality of the Bundesliga due to the dominance of one team.

According to Kicker, the idea of bringing play-offs to decide the winner of the Bundesliga has gathered pace. While talking to Kicker, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn also backed the idea of introducing play-offs in the Bundesliga to bring more excitement for fans.

"“I think it’s exciting to consider new formats such as play-offs for the Bundesliga. A new format will also take effect in the Champions League from 2024, and we have high hopes for it.”“A format in the Bundesliga with semi-finals and finals would mean excitement for the fans. So, it makes sense to consider such an idea. We at FC Bayern are always open to new ideas.”"

The playoffs system may make the title race redundant, but it will keep multiple teams in the reckoning for the league title until the end. It remains to be seen if finishing first in the league will be given some sort of advantage in the play-offs.

It still remains an idea and there is a lot to be done before successfully implementing it in the Bundesliga. However, the backing of Bayern will definitely be a big boost for the officials that may eventually support this idea and convince stakeholders of the Bundesliga to implement it.

For the time being, it does look like the title race in the Bundesliga will not go down the wire after Borussia Dortmund suffered defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. The title races in Premier League and Ligue 1 are also not intense this season, so criticising Bundesliga alone doesn’t make sense.

Die Roten will be back in action against Bochum on Saturday after last weekend’s thrilling win against RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena. Julian Nagelsmann will be looking for improvement in the defensive organisation of the team on Saturday ahead of big games in the Champions League later this season.
