The last couple of weeks has given a clear idea about the priorities for Bayern Munich in the defensive department during the summer window. The Bavarian club failed to reach an agreement with Niklas Sule for a new deal. The 26-year-old central defender is expected to leave in the summer on a free transfer.

Die Roten decided to open negotiations with Sule at the end of Hinrunde. However, the German defender rejected the offer to explore a new adventure. The club officials have suggested that they proposed a fair offer for a new contract.

Meanwhile, few reports in Germany have suggested that Niklas Sule wanted a bigger wage packet to stay in Bavaria. After listening to the version of events from Bayern and German media, Sule’s agent has come ahead to clear things about negotiations for a new deal.

While talking to Sport1 Doppelpass (via SportsBild), Volker Struth (Sule’s agent) confirmed that his client had already made up the mind of leaving Bayern. The German defender confirmed his decision to Die Roten at the start of January. Struth has also insisted that Sule didn’t feel valued at the club due to the timing of contract negotiations.

"“We never negotiated with Bayern. He also went straight to the club on January 2 to say he wants to leave. It wasn’t about money, he wanted to do something else.”“The reason why he is leaving Bavaria is very simple: he has the feeling that he is not valued enough. In the past, there was always a contract talk two years before the end of the contract, with Sule it was only six months before that and by then the penny had already dropped: Süle wanted to leave FC Bayern.”"

It does look like Die Roten is pushing the narrative that Sule wanted more money to extend his stay. Meanwhile, the player’s entourage is insisting that delays in talks led to no contract renewal. It is very much possible that both parties are true here.

Rekordmeister previously had doubts about offering a new deal to Sule. The Bavarian club kept on deliberating over a new deal. However, Sule’s consistent performances under Julian Nagelsmann forced the club’s hand to negotiate a renewal. By that time, the German international decided to move away from Bavaria. He might have been open to staying at a higher wage packet, so there is a certain element of truth in both narratives.

For now, Sule will be looking to end the season in the best possible manner with Bayern Munich. The German international is the main man at the back for Nagelsmann. He will play a big role in the club’s target of winning the Bundesliga and Champions League titles.

Struth also confirmed that Niklas Sule has already decided his next destination. The German defender has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League, while Barcelona has also lately joined the race to sign him. Sule may end up announcing his next club before the end of the season.
