Bayern Munich: Top European clubs monitoring Serge Gnabry’s situation
The winter transfer window was fruitful for Bayern Munich as they managed to secure the future of two attacking players- Kingsley Coman and Paul Wanner. Coman is already an important first-team player, while Wanner is tipped to become a crucial player for Rekordmeister in the future.
After the contract renewal of these two players, the focus shifts towards contract renewals of other attacking players in the first-team squad. Serge Gnabry is one of the players in the first team that have less than 18 months left on their current deals.
There has been a considerable amount of optimism since the start of the season about Gnabry’s renewal. However, the negotiations have slowed down, and a breakthrough is not around the corner for now. The German media is now reporting interest in the winger from various top clubs in Europe.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are keenly following the contract talks between Gnabry and Bayern. All four clubs could make a move for the German winger if Gnabry fails to agree to a new deal in Bavaria.
The report from Sky insists that Die Roten is confident about Gnabry staying at the club. The German forward wants parity in wages with the likes of Leroy Sane, Leon Goretzka, and Kingsley Coman. All three players are reportedly earning more than €15 million/year at Die Roten.
Ever since returning from a loan spell at Hoffenheim, Serge Gnabry has been a very successful forward for Rekordmeister. He has got in double figures for goals in each of his four seasons in Bavaria. Gnabry’s best season coincided with Die Roten’s treble-winning season. He scored 23 goals in the 2019/20 season across all competitions.
Gnabry did witness a dip in numbers during last season, but he has got back to his best this season. The German winger already has 12 goals to his name across all competitions. Gnabry thrived under Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, so it is not surprising to see him get back to his best under the same coach in Bavaria.
Serge Gnabry is bound to get better as he enters the peak years of his career. The stand-off due to wages is more than likely to be resolved before the end of the season. Gnabry has always insisted on enjoying long-term success in Bavaria, so a contract renewal is likely to be a matter of when than if. The interest from top clubs will definitely strengthen Gnabry’s claim to get significant wages.
