Bayern Munich begins their February Bundesliga schedule on Saturday against RB Leipzig. Following two consecutive league victories, Bayern will be looking to continue their winning ways as they look to remain at least six points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund. Although Bayern did defeat Leipzig 4-1 earlier this season, Leipzig has been in terrific form as of late as they registered an undefeated record in January. Here are five things to watch for ahead of Saturday’s match.

Bayern’s offensive dominance

In their last five Bundesliga matches, Bayern has scored 18 goals which have increased their league total to 65 goals entering Saturday’s match. They continue to be the Bundesliga’s top-scoring club and have registered ten league performances this season of four goals or more scored in a single match. One of those ten performances of four goals or more scored was against Leipzig in September.

Thomas Muller’s terrific form

Muller has played a big role in Bayern’s recent victories as he has recorded two goals and five assists in his last five league appearances. On Saturday, he will certainly be in the of the players who could have an impact on the outcome of the match. In his last three appearances against Leipzig, Muller has recorded two goals and one assist.

Leipzig moving up the table

Having won four of their last six Bundesliga matches, Leipzig is closing in on the top four in the league. They will enter this week’s fixtures just three points behind fourth-place Union Berlin. A win against Bayern would be a crucial result for them as it would increase their win streak in the league to four matches and possibly move them into the top four places.

Two top strikers

With six goals in his last eight Bundesliga appearances, Andre Silva has been one of the top offensive players for Leipzig. The striker has scored over ten goals in his last two Bundesliga seasons and is nearing another double-digit goal-scoring campaign. He could play a major role in the outcome of the match if he is given goal-scoring opportunities.

Robert Lewandowski has continued to be a consistent goal scorer for Bayern as he leads the Bundesliga in goals scored with 23 goals recorded so far this season. With seven goals in his last five league appearances, he has been in incredible form and has the opportunity to reach 25 goals scored on Saturday if he is able to record a multi-goal performance against Leipzig.( Stats courtesy: fbref)

Another draw?

The last two matches between Bayern and Leipzig at the Allianz Arena have ended in draws. In February of 2020, it was a scoreless draw and in December of 2020, it was a thrilling 3-3 draw between the two clubs. It will be interesting to see if Leipzig will be able to earn a point once more at the Allianz Arena.
