Bayern Munich failed with a bid to sign right-back in January
The last 12 months have seen Bayern Munich heavily linked with right-backs for the first team. The Bavarian club will be looking to strengthen this position in the summer after failing to do so during the winter transfer window.
According to Voetbal International, Bayern made a late attempt to sign Denso Kasius from Utrecht. The Bavarian club was ready to hijack Kasius’ move to Bologna on Saturday. However, the young right-back decided to join the Italian club instead of moving to Bavaria.
Kasius has largely played for Utrecht’s U-21 side this season. His output from the right-back position was impressive as he managed to contribute with five goals and two assists in 21 appearances. The Dutch full-back is now expected to play in the first team at Bologna after the Italian club forked out €3 million to sign him. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
A move to Bayern would have been too early for Kasius. However, the German club’s willingness to sign him does suggest that he will be heavily tracked during his time in Italy. If he performs well in Serie A, a move to Bavaria in the future will be more than a possibility.
Die Roten has endured problems in the right-back position during the last 18 months. Benjamin Pavard is a solid defender, but he is not able to provide impetus in the final third like Alphonso Davies does in the left-back position. Moreover, Pavard also prefers playing in the central defense.
The other concrete option for the right-back position is Josip Stanisic. The Croatian has been impressive in the handful of first-team appearances he has made this season. He is now part of the first team, but there are many aspects of Stanisic’s game that needs polishing to make him a complete right-back. For the time being, he is a very good cover in this position.
Bouna Sarr was bought from Marseille in 2020 to provide more quality in the right-back position. However, the Senegalese defender has struggled with injuries and form during his stay in Bavaria. He is expected to leave Bavaria next summer transfer window to make space for a new right-back.
The summer window will see Die Roten making attempts to add a quality option in the right-back position. The Bavarian has tried to sign Sergino Dest on multiple occasions. If Barcelona is ready to cash in during the summer, then Bayern will definitely be in the mix to sign him.
