The goalkeeping department at Bayern Munich is fairly settled right now. The Bavarian club is expected to extend the contract of Manuel Neuer as he enters the final phase of his career. Neuer is eager to sign a new deal and possibly retire in Bavaria after the end of the new deal.
When Neuer ends up signing a new deal, it could have a big impact on the long-term future of Alexander Nubel in Bavaria. In the short term, the young German goalkeeper has no other plans other than staying in Ligue 1.
According to AZ, Nubel is planning to stay in Ligue 1 with Monaco next season. Die Roten cannot terminate the loan move unless there is a serious injury to Neuer. Despite reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Nubel will be completing the loan spell at Monaco during the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, Nubel’s agent has confirmed that his client’s long-term future in Die Roten will be decided at the end of the next season. He has hinted towards an exit from Bayern in 2023 if Neuer ends up signing a new deal with the club.
Nubel has been playing regularly at Monaco ever since joining them in the summer. Even after the departure of Niko Kovac, Nubel has remained number one at Monaco. It will make no sense to part ways with the French club when he can get much-needed consistent playing time at this stage of his career.
Hasan Salihamidzic is reportedly eager to keep Nubel, but Neuer’s contract extension will end hopes of the player to fulfill his potential in Bavaria. Neuer remains keen on playing as many games as possible throughout the season, so Nubel will have to warm the bench if he decides to stay at Die Roten.
Meanwhile, Rekordmeister also has to decide about the deputy of Neuer for next season. Sven Ulreich has only five months left on his deal, so the Bavarian club will have to soon figure out a new contract for him or sign a new goalkeeper. Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega has been linked with a move to Bayern in the past for this role.
Christian Fruchtl is likely to go out on loan in the summer transfer window, while Ron-Thorben Hoffmann is expected to permanently move to Sunderland at the end of this season. Both players will not get game time in Bavaria, so a transfer is the best solution for all parties.
