Apart from the defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach, it has been a fine start to Hinrunde for Bayern Munich. They have managed to win two out of their three games before a two-week-long break. Die Roten is currently preparing for next weekend’s clash against RB Leipzig.

Along with Die Roten, Robert Lewandowski has also enjoyed a good start to the year. The Polish striker has scored four goals in three games. His hunger to score goals every game makes him such an elite striker.

As of now, Lewandowski has managed to score 23 goals in 20 Bundesliga games this season. He is averaging more than a goal per game, making him the most prolific goalscorer in Europe. The Poland international is currently the best striker in the world as he continues to score for fun.

On a personal level, last season was special for Lewandowski. He managed to break Gerd Muller’s record of scoring most league goals in a single Bundesliga campaign. While talking to Bundesliga.com, former Bayern coach and player Jurgen Klinsmann has backed the Polish striker to better last season’s league tally and break his own record. Klinsmann also heaped praise on Lewandowski for maintaining incredible fitness levels.

"“I don’t think anyone will break the record, perhaps with the exception of Lewandowski. He has the chance to beat his own best mark of 41 goals. He’s one of those guys that could keep playing until they’re 40.”"

Lewandowski managed to score 69 goals across all competitions in 2021, making it the best calendar year of his career. He narrowly missed out on Ballon d’Or last year, but his efforts were rewarded by FIFA during the BEST awards in January. The Polish striker has shown no signs of slowing down, so there is a good chance of him improving the annual tally in 2022.

The 33-year-old striker has also been prolific in the group stages of the Champions League this season, scoring nine goals in six games. Die Roten will desperately want him to be fit for the rest of the season. They heavily missed his presence in last season’s quarter-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

The next few months are crucial for Lewandowski on and off the pitch. He will be eyeing another Champions League title and retain the Bundesliga title with Die Roten. Meanwhile, there is likely to be movement on his future in Bavaria during the next few months.

Rekordmeister is expected to open contract talks with the Polish striker as he enters the final year of his current deal. It does seem like a no-brainer for Rekordmeister to keep him for a few more seasons since he is ageing like a fine wine.
