The last couple of weeks has witnessed significant development in the long-term future of Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich. The German goalkeeper is eager to see out the rest of his career in Bavaria, so the club is close to extending his contract in the coming weeks.

Neuer’s potential contract renewal is set to have an impact on the future of Alexander Nubel. The young German goalkeeper is expected to leave Bavaria permanently in the next summer transfer window. Nubel could end up playing in the Premier League from next season.

According to Kicker (via Bild), Tottenham Hotspur is showing interest in signing Nubel in the summer. Nubel currently has a contract with Die Roten until 2025, so Spurs will have to pay a decent fee for the German goalkeeper as he continues to impress at Monaco.

From Nubel’s perspective, a move to Spurs will not be ideal for regular playing time. Hugo Lloris has been the first-choice goalkeeper at Spurs for most of the last decade. The French international recently signed a new deal, so Nubel will have to act as backup goalkeeper in North London if this move materialises.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany is reporting that Hasan Salihamidzic is eager to keep Nubel at Die Roten. The German goalkeeper will most likely complete his loan spell at Monaco until 2023. However, he will look for a permanent move away from Bavaria if Neuer signs a new deal until 2025.

Nubel arrived at Die Roten in 2020 from Schalke on a free transfer. The move from Nubel did raise eyebrows since Neuer was going strong at Bayern. However, Nubel’s agent did insist that Die Roten came up with the best possible package that also included a certain amount of playing time.

Things didn’t go as per plan for Nubel during his debut season. He managed to feature in less than a handful of games and eventually decided to go out on loan last summer to get consistent minutes at the senior level.

Nubel has been tipped to become a long-term replacement for Neuer. Since Neuer has shown no signs of slowing down, it has led to a tricky situation for Nubel. Either he keeps waiting to become Die Roten’s number one, or he seeks a move away to get playing time at the top level.

Bayern may have to look for a new number two during the next summer transfer window. Sven Ulreich’s current deal comes to an end in June, while Nubel is likely to stay in Monaco. In such a scenario, Rekordmeister will have to look for a new deputy for Neuer or extend Ulreich’s contract.
