The winter transfer window has been a quiet one for Bayern Munich until now. The German club completed the departure of Mickael Cuisance in the first week of the transfer window. The French midfielder has decided to kickstart his career in Italy by joining Venezia.

Apart from Cuisance, there has been hardly any movement in other transfers for Rekordmeister. It was widely expected that Die Roten would not sign new players in January as primary targets are usually not available midway through the season. However, the German club was open to listening offers for their fringe players.

Bouna Sarr is one of the fringe players in the current squad that doesn’t have a long-term future in Bavaria. The 29-year-old right-back has struggled to get consistent playing time under Julian Nagelsmann during the first half of the season. Benjamin Pavard and Josip Stanisic are currently ahead of him in the pecking order for the right-back role in the squad.

Despite less playing time during Hinrunde, Sarr is not short of options for his next move. According to Foot Mercato, Lille, Bordeaux, Roma, and Genoa have shown interest in signing the experienced full-back. However, Sarr’s participation in AFCON with Senegal has raised doubts about the transfer going ahead this month.

Previously, Sarr had ruled out a move away from Bavaria in January. The former Marseille defender wants to assess his future in the summer and focus on AFCON with Senegal during the winter transfer window. It will take a massive turn of events for Sarr to leave Bavaria this month.

However, Rekordmeister should be encouraged by the interest of multiple clubs in Bouna Sarr. They are more than likely to return for him in summer. The record Bundesliga Champions will be hoping to get a small bidding war for Sarr and recoup the money they paid for the right-back in 2020.

Bouna Sarr will find it difficult to get playing time in the first team when he returns from AFCON unless there is a massive injury crisis in the defense. Moreover, multiple reports in Germany have hinted that Bayern wants to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. It will be better for all parties if a transfer away from Bavaria is sorted sooner rather than later.

While there has been little to no movement in transfers, Bayern completed one vital piece of business by extending the contract of Kingsley Coman. Serge Gnabry, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, and Robert Lewandowski are next in line to get their contracts sorted, while the club also remains in talks with Niklas Sule.
