Bayern Munich close to extending contract of Kingsley Coman
The winter transfer window gives an option for clubs to improve the squad for improving their chances to achieve set targets for the season. Bayern Munich is not expected to be busy during January when it comes to signing players, but the Bavarian club is working on the long-term planning for the squad.
Die Roten has received a major boost for their long-term goals as they found a breakthrough in contract negotiations with a crucial member of the first team. According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), Kingsley Coman is close to signing a new deal with the defending Bundesliga champions.
The French media outlet also reports that Coman will be earning €17 million/year, making him the third-highest earner in the squad behind Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski. It was previously reported in France that Coman had changed his mind about his future, and he now wants to stay in Bavaria.
L’Equipe’s reports have been backed by various media outlets in Germany. SportBild and Sky Sports in Germany have confirmed that there is a significant breakthrough in the contract talks with the French winger. Coman’s father is in Bavaria to put the final touches on the contract renewal, which is likely to last until the end of the 2025/26 season. RMC in France has also confirmed that Coman is set to sign a new deal with Die Roten.
However, Sky Sports insists that Coman will not be the third-highest earner for Rekordmeister. At one point last summer, it looked certain that Kingsley Coman was set to leave Bavaria, so the quick development in 2022 is surely a pleasant surprise for the Bavarian faithful.
Coman and Rekordmeister had reached an impasse in contract talks last summer due to the wage demands of the winger. The French international reportedly wanted to leave the club in the summer. However, Rekordmeister was in no mood to listen to offers less than €100 million, a transfer fee that made the transfer impossible for the interested clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool.
Kingsley Coman has fared well under Julian Nagelsmann. The French winger has significantly improved in the last two seasons, achieving great consistency in performances and output in the final third. The Bavarian club reopened contract talks with the winger at the end of 2021.
With Coman signing a new deal, the Bavarian club will be looking to reach a similar conclusion to talks with Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski. Die Roten also wants Niklas Sule to stay, but time is running out in his case. The German defender has been tipped to leave Bayern on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
