Bayern Munich eager to extend contract of young midfielder
Even though Bayern Munich suffered defeat in the first game of 2022, there were some positive takeaways from the game against Borussia Monchengladbach. The biggest positive was seeing defending Bundesliga champions handing a first-team debut to Lucas Copado and Paul Wanner against Gladbach.
The circumstances forced Die Roten to call upon players from the reserves team to be part of the first team against Gladbach. Wanner and Copado had some bright moments when they came on the pitch. It was a tidy cameo from both youngsters in a difficult situation as Die Roten was looking to get back in the game.
There is a lot to be excited about Wanner as he is tipped to become a part of the first team in the near future. He became the youngest player to represent Die Roten in the Bundesliga after coming on for Marc Roca in the 75th minute against Gladbach.
After handing a first-team debut to Wanner, Bayern is also eager to secure his future. According to Sky Sports, Die Roten is working on a contract extension of the young midfielder. Even though he has only six months left on the current deal, Die Roten remains confident about a contract extension. Wanner is highly rated by Julian Nagelsmann and the club hierarchy.
Die Roten has done well in handling top young talents in the past couple of years. They moved swiftly to complete the signing of Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps. He was straightway integrated into the first team, which was huge development since Davies was a teenager and had no experience playing in Europe.
Rekordmeister’s decision to give consistent playing time to Davies in the first team was rewarded as he excelled in the left-back position during the treble-winning campaign. He is currently one of the crucial players in the squad.
After enjoying success with Davies, Die Roten also successfully integrated Jamal Musiala into the first-team squad. The youngster made his first-team debut at the start of the 2020/21 season. Musiala impressed throughout his debut season and earned himself a new long-term deal at the club. The young German midfielder is also blossoming under Nagelsmann this season.
Hopefully, Wanner also gets integrated into the first team in a similar manner. The youngster may not get playing opportunities straightaway since he is only 16. As long as the club has a good plan for him, things will eventually fall in place for Wanner in the first team.
