The end of 2021 was remarkable for Bayern Munich as they achieved consistency in results and got a strong lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. Die Roten is well placed to retain the league title after getting a lead of nine points over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

A strong Hinrunde in the Bundesliga and Champions League was a collective success under Julian Nagelsmann. However, Robert Lewandowski was the main man for Rekordmeister in the final third throughout the year.

The Polish striker managed to enjoy a prolific 2021 as he managed to break Gerd Muller’s two key records. He scored 41 goals in the Bundesliga last season to break Muller’s record of 40 league goals in a single league campaign in Germany. By the end of 2021, Lewandowski also broke Muller’s record for scoring most Bundesliga goals in a single calendar year.

Across all competitions, Robert Lewandowski managed to score 69 goals in 2021. Such an exemplary output in a single calendar year does deserve plaudits and awards. The Poland international was unlucky to miss out on Ballon d’Or, but he did manage to win the best goalscorer of the year award from France Football.

In the final week of 2021, Lewandowski managed to get more individual awards to cap off a brilliant year. Kicker named Lewandowski as the personality of the year after a smashing season in the Bundesliga. This is the second following year that a representative from Bayern has won the award after Hansi Flick got the title last year for an exemplary year with the club.

Robert Lewandowski travelled to Dubai on Monday for Globe Soccer Awards. The Polish striker was nominated for the men’s player of the year. Lewandowski was awarded Maradona goalscorer of the year at the event. He also voted as  TikTok Fan’s Player of the year. He couldn’t make a clean sweep as Kylian Mbappe edged him for the men’s player of the year award.

Even though Mbappe had a productive season, it does feel like Lewandowski should have won all three awards at the event. Nevertheless, the Poland international is enjoying a good run of form this season, so he will definitely be a favourite to win the majority of individual awards next year.

Along with his goal-scoring prowess, Lewandowski’s future at Bayern is also going to be a talking point in 2022. The Polish striker has less than 18 months on his current deal. Die Roten is expected to start negotiations with him early next year. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that the Polish striker will lift more individual awards as a Bayern player in 2022.
