Bayern Munich continue to be linked with Julian Alvarez
The winter transfer window is just around the corner, so the transfer rumours are getting intense with every passing week. Bayern Munich will not make big moves in January, but that doesn’t stop various media outlets linking various players with them.
River Plate’s Julian Alvarez has been reportedly one of the players on the radar of Die Roten over the past few windows. Ahead of the winter transfer window, Argentine journalist Hernan Castillo (via Mundoalbiceleste) has insisted that Die Roten is in contention to sign Alvarez. He further reported that Manchester United has already made an offer for him, so Rekordmeister will have to move quickly to clinch this transfer.
Alvarez has been the most prolific forward in Argentina this season. The 21-year-old forward has scored 24 goals and 16 assists across all competitions until now. He has been linked with numerous top clubs in Europe due to his incredible consistency with River Plate. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
Rekordmeister has been heavily investing in young talents from various parts of the world in the past four-five seasons. They struck gold with Alphonso Davies as the Canadian winger has been successfully converted into one of the best left-backs in the world.
The Bavarian club also managed to poach Jamal Musiala from Chelsea and successfully integrate him into the first team. Musiala has established himself as a key player for Die Roten at the age of 18 and also managed to make his debut for the German national team.
Alvarez is slightly older than Davies and Musiala when they arrived in Bavaria, but he can still be considered as a young promising player. The Argentine can provide a different option in the attack for Julian Nagelsmann and improve the depth of the squad. His numbers at River Plate do suggest that he can be a signing for now and future.
Moreover, the 21-year-old forward can be groomed as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is expected to stay in Bavaria for the next few seasons, but Die Roten will have to start planning for his successor. Alvarez is a flexible forward, so he can learn under Lewandowski and eventually replace him as the main man in the attack.
Provided the transfer fee is feasible, Alvarez can be another shrewd piece of business for Rekordmeister. However, they will have to move quickly to seal this deal if the reported interest from Manchester United is real.
