Bayern can field a strong back four against Barcelona

Manuel Neuer had little to do during the away game against Barcelona earlier this season. He would like to get a similar result on Wednesday. However, the German goalkeeper will be much busier this time around since it is a do-or-die situation for the Spanish club.

In defense, the selection should be straightforward for Nagelsmann. Niklas Sule made his return against Dortmund, so the German defender is definitely in line to get a start on Wednesday. Sule has been the best performing center-back for Rekordmeister this season, so his return to full fitness after a bout with COVID-19 is a big boost for Nagelsmann.

Lucas Hernandez and Dayot Upamecano have done well lately, but one of them will be rotated against Barcelona. Hernandez does seem to get better when he is given a consistent run in the team, so it will not be a surprise seeing him partner Sule in defense against Barcelona.

Benjamin Pavard has not been in the best form this season, but Nagelsmann has no other right-back to call upon for this game. Courtesy of injuries to Josip Stanisic and Bouna Sarr, Pavard will get the nod in the right-back position against Barcelona. Alphonso Davies has terrorized Barcelona’s defense in the last two meetings, which makes him starting in the left-back position on Wednesday as certainty.
