Bayern Munich Frauen scored early and often in their 7-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The hosts recorded their second-highest goal total in a single fixture this season in the Frauen-Bundesliga. The result improves Bayern’s record to 8-0-2 in the domestic league as the first half of the season nears its conclusion.

A strong start

With five goals scored in the first 30 minutes of the match, Bayern ensured they would walk off the pitch with all three points. Linda Dallmann opened the scoring in the fifth minute which was followed up by a Lea Schuller goal just eight minutes later in the 13th minute. Maximiliane Rall extended the advantage further in the 23rd minute with Giulia Gwinn scoring her first goal of the season minutes later to make it 4-0.

In the second half, Bayern did not let up in their goal scoring as Schuller and Rall both recorded their second goals of the match. Viviane Asseyi also scored for Bayern to register her first goal in the league since Matchday Four. Leverkusen was able to score a consolation goal in the 75th minute with Amira Arfaoui scoring for the visitors to erase the clean sheet.

Schuller and Rall record another brace

Schuller’s two-goal performance on Saturday was her third brace of the Frauen-Bundesliga season. After entering this match with just one goal scored in her last four league appearances, Schuller was able to improve her season goal total to nine goals scored in 11 league appearances.

Rall also registered her third brace of the domestic campaign. The 28-year-old was able to increase her season goal tally to seven goals in ten appearances. Her three-match goalless streak came to an end as her last goals came against Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday Six.

Both Schuller and Rall are on pace to register over ten goals this season in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Bayern has had three consecutive seasons where at least two players have registered double-digit goal-scoring numbers. It is looking very likely that streak will be extended to a fourth consecutive campaign.

Bayern will shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League group stage as they play Hacken on Thursday on Matchday Five. They could potentially secure progression to the knockout phase of the competition if they win and Benfica is defeated by first place Lyon.

Next Sunday, Bayern will play an away fixture in the Frauen-Bundesliga against Turbine Potsdam. That match will mark the halfway point of the domestic campaign. Turbine Potsdam will enter the match only four points behind Bayern in the table and it promises to be an intriguing fixture between the two clubs.
