The midfield department could see a major upheaval at Bayern Munich during the next summer transfer window. The two key players in Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, will remain at the club after signing new long-term deals this season. However, other midfield players are likely to leave, which will open up slots for new arrivals.

In such a scenario, Die Roten will have to do some clever business during summer to add more depth and quality in the midfield. Going by one report from France last weekend, it does look like Bayern is focussing on a young French midfielder from Marseille.

According to Foot Mercato, Bayern has been keenly following the situation of Boubacar Kamara. This report insists that the Bavarian club did make enquiries regarding Kamara during the last transfer window.

The French midfielder will have many suitors next summer since his contract with Marseille is coming to an end. Along with Die Roten, Foot Mercato also revealed interest from Barcelona in the 22-year-old midfielder.

Kamara is considered one of the promising young midfielders in Ligue 1. He is primarily a defensive midfielder, but the Frenchman can be used as a central midfielder and central defender. As long as Rekordmeister has a clear plan about consistent playing time for Kamara, this transfer can turn out to be a coup in the long run.

Rekordmeister has struggled to integrate young midfielders in the past few seasons. Renato Sanches arrived in Bavaria with a big fee, but lack of playing time and poor form didn’t allow him to thrive at the club. Mickael Cuisance and Marc Roca have also struggled to show their best qualities at Die Roten due to lack of playing time. Both midfielders are expected to leave sooner rather than later. Corentin Tolisso is also expected to leave Bavaria on a free transfer next season.

The form of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka has made sure that the playing time of other midfielders has been reduced in the past couple of seasons. However, Julian Nagelsmann will have to rotate effectively to avoid burnout of these two midfielders in the long run.

Kamara can be the ideal midfielder to provide cover for Kimmich. Die Roten can definitely get him ahead of Barcelona, provided they can promise a decent amount of playing time that can aid his development. From an economical point of view, Kamara’s arrival will allow transfer funds to be used in other positions.
