Bayern Munich: Marc Roca linked with move to Eintracht Frankfurt
The winter transfer window at Bayern Munich could see numerous departures. Marc Roca is probably the first name on the departure list from Bavaria in January as the Spaniard has struggled to get playing time under Julian Nagelsmann. The Spaniard midfielder could well stay in the Bundesliga, going by the latest report in Germany.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Roca’s representatives have touched base with Eintracht Frankfurt to explore a transfer. However, there is still a fair amount of work to do, and it is not a done deal as per this report. Previously, Sport1 had also reported that Eintracht Frankfurt holds interest in the Spanish midfielder.
Apart from Frankfurt, Roca has also been linked with a loan move to Real Betis. The next few weeks will be crucial for the Spaniard in terms of getting a move away in January to get consistent playing time.
It has been difficult 18 months for Roca since getting the big move to Bayern from Espanyol. The first season was expected to be all about adaptation for Roca as he managed just above 500 minutes across all competitions.
Marc Roca worked hard during the summer to be physically ready for the Bundesliga. However, an unfortunate ankle injury in the first week of the pre-season ruled him out for the start of the season. Reports in Germany suggested that Nagelsmann has Roca in his plans for this season, but things have not gone as planned for Roca.
The Spanish midfielder made his first appearance for Die Roten on Tuesday against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League through a second-half cameo. He might get an opportunity in the final group game of the Champions League against Barcelona since Die Roten has sealed qualification.
It is difficult to see where Marc Roca will get playing time in the next few months apart from the game against Barcelona. He is currently behind Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso, and Marcel Sabitzer for a place in the midfield. He must get a transfer (permanent or loan) in January to kickstart his career.
A move to Frankfurt on a temporary basis could help all parties provided Roca gets a good amount of playing time during this spell. As of now, Roca’s stock is low, which is naturally going to affect the transfer fee if the permanent transfer is on the agenda. A good loan spell during the second half of the season will allow Die Roten to assess the situation in summer. Playing more in the Bundesliga can also improve his chances of fulfilling his potential in Bavaria, so a loan move to Frankfurt could be an interesting transfer for Roca.
