Bayern Munich finally open contract talks with Niklas Sule
The last month of the year is expected to be busy for Hasan Salihamidzic at Bayern Munich. The club’s sporting director will be negotiating contract renewals with key players of the squad. After opening talks with Manuel Neuer, the club has also made a step forward in extending the stay of Niklas Sule.
According to Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg, Salihamidzic is keen to extend Sule’s contract at Die Roten. The Bavarian club has already held preliminary talks with the player’s entourage regarding a renewal. Die Roten is ready to offer a salary package worth €10 million to the German defender.
The report from Sport1 has also been backed by SportBild. However, Kicker on Thursday reported that Sule is looking more likely to leave Bavaria, and talks with the club have stalled for a new contract.
Since two reputable journalists from Bild and SportBild are reporting about Sule, there is surely some sort of development around his contract renewal. Earlier in the season, it was widely reported in Germany that Sule and Die Roten had delayed talks for a new contract until winter. With the winter transfer window six weeks away, resumption of contract talks between both parties makes sense.
Previously, Bayern had reportedly shown doubts about handing a new contract to Sule. The German defender has struggled for form and fitness after recovering from a serious knee injury in 2019. He struggled to cement his place in the starting XI after the injury as Hansi Flick preferred Jerome Boateng and David Alaba in the heart of the defense.
Things started changing for Sule after the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann. Alaba and Boateng left the club last summer, which made Sule the most senior center-back in the squad. Nagelsmann laid down the challenge of getting back to his best at the start of the season.
The partnership of Niklas Sule and Nagelsmann worked well at Hoffenheim. Similar signs have been witnessed in the last three months. Sule has been the most consistent central defender for Die Roten this season. His absence in the starting XI for a few games amplified his importance to the team.
Sule’s performances this season surely make a convincing case for a new deal. Since Nagelsmann can get the best out of him, it is a no-brainer for Die Roten to extend Sule’s contract. The Bavarian club has six weeks to negotiate a new deal as Niklas Sule can start talking to other clubs for a pre-contract agreement in January.
