The last few months have been very busy for Hasan Salihamidzic at Bayern Munich. After completing transfers in the summer, the Bavarian club has been focussing on the contract renewals of key players. After a couple of contract renewals, the club is now looking to secure the future of Manuel Neuer.
According to Sport1, Die Roten has started negotiations with Neuer regarding a contract extension. The German shot-stopper’s current deal is set to expire in 2023, but he is ready to commit his future to Rekordmeister until 2025.
Earlier this season, Sport1 reported that Neuer is very eager to extend his stay in Bavaria. He is ready to play at the top level for more years as he shows no signs of decline despite turning 35 this year. Sport1 also confirms that Neuer also enjoys a very good relationship with the club hierarchy.
After struggling with severe injury for a couple of years, Manuel Neuer has looked back to his best in the past couple of seasons. His shot-stopping remains brilliant, while his ability to help the team play out from the back is second to none in the world.
Apart from his qualities on the pitch, Neuer is a very crucial member of the dressing team. The veteran goalkeeper is a leader on and off the pitch. He still has a lot to offer for Rekordmeister on and off the pitch while going forward.
If Die Roten decides to offer Neuer a contract until 2025, it will further highlight the club’s faith in the goalkeeper’s qualities. The Bavarian club has often handed short-term deals to players in their 30s, but a longer deal for Neuer shows that they believe in him to deliver quality performances for a long time. Philipp Lahm also recently backed the German goalkeeper to play until 40 for club and country.
Neuer surely deserves a new deal due to his performances in the past couple of seasons. He has also started the new campaign strongly. However, Rekordmeister should look at the bigger picture and make sure that Neuer’s workload is managed while going forward.
Along with getting the best performances from Manuel Neuer by managing his workload, rotation in the goal will also help in developing his long-term successor. Alexander Nubel remains confident about making it at Bayern, so it will be interesting to see how Neuer’s renewal will affect his future.
