The international break has been productive for several Bayern Munich players. The majority of them have been heavily involved in goals and assists for their country. Meanwhile, the German contingent from Die Roten had been dealt a blow as Niklas Sule was tested positive for COVID-19.

Along with Sule, several Bayern players had to quarantine. From Germany’s squad, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Jamal Musiala had to isolate themselves from other players. Meanwhile, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also had to quarantine since he was in contact with Sule.

The good news for Die Roten is that most of the players are back in training. Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala were training with the first team at Sabner Strasse on Tuesday. The German forwards are likely to be joined by Kimmich later this week.

Meanwhile, German media has been reporting that Sule remains in isolation since he is still showing mild symptoms. The German defender might not make it for the weekend’s game against Augsburg and the Champions League game in the midweek.

Sule has been a key player for Die Roten this season, so he will be heavily missed in the next two games. Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez are likely to form the center-back pairing in the absence of Sule. The French duo fared well for France against Kazakhstan at the end of last week.

Choupo-Moting joined up with the Cameroon squad for the second game of the international break. Barring any last-minute injury, the experienced striker will be available for selection on Friday. Choupo-Moting is most likely to get starts in the remaining two group games of the Champions League.

Leon Goretzka missed Germany’s second game of the international break due to injury. The German midfielder was training individually on Tuesday. It remains to be seen whether he will recover in time to make the squad for Friday’s game. Apart from Goretzka, Sven Ulreich is the other Bayern player that will miss the game against Augsburg due to injury.

Bayern Munich went into the international break on the back of a gritty 2-1 win against Freiburg. The next two months will be crucial in setting the tone for a successful title defense. With qualification for the next round of the Champions League under the belt, Die Roten will be looking to win all league games until the winter break to get a significant lead at the top of the table.
