The loan moves for young players from Bayern Munich have not worked well in the past couple of seasons. However, Alexander Nubel’s move to Monaco does seem to benefit all parties. Nubel can take strides in his development during the two-year loan spell at the French club.

Few eyebrows were raised in Germany when Rekordmeister moved swiftly in 2020 to seal the signing of Alexander Nubel from Schalke. The young shot-stopper is considered as one of the promising goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

Despite the presence of Manuel Neuer at Die Roten, Nubel decided to sign for the club on a free transfer. Since Neuer is showing no signs of slowing down, Nubel’s first season in Bavaria was difficult. He struggled for game time throughout the last campaign and ended up with less than five appearances for Rekordmeister.

Nubel was desperate for playing time, so he pushed for a loan move last summer. Die Roten brought Sven Ulreich back to the club and allowed Nubel to go out on a two-year loan deal. While talking to Kicker, Nubel insisted that he will not change anything from the last 18 months despite getting less playing time at Bayern. The young shot-stopper remains confident about succeeding in Bavaria.

"“I joined Bayern because they presented me with the best career plan. I still have enough time to play games for Bayern.”“I learned a lot from Manuel Neuer. His movement, his understanding of the game, the way he interacts with the defenders. I compared the way he reacts to some situations in training to mine, and what I can take from it.”"

After a difficult start at Monaco, Alexander Nubel is now settled and delivering good performances. The German goalkeeper is the first-choice goalkeeper at the club under former Bayern head coach Niko Kovac. It just looks like a matter of time that Nubel will get a call-up for the national team.

Previously, a report in Germany also insisted that Bayern have Nubel in their long-term plans. The German club considers him the successor for Neuer when the veteran shot-stopper hangs his boots. Considering the form of Neuer, it doesn’t look like he is retiring anytime soon.

Neuer is reportedly open to extending his contract at Die Roten. The Bavarian club will have to make sure that Nubel gets a considerable amount of playing time when he returns from his loan spell in 2023. While signing a new deal, Neuer will need convincing to share playing time with Nubel.

Die Roten has been very efficient in terms of replacing an older player with solid young talent in the past three seasons. They will have to maintain similar efficiency and ruthlessness to have a successor lined up for Neuer. Alexander Nubel took the brave decision to go out on loan, but the two-year-long spell in France can eventually help him to become the number one in Bavaria. Rekordmeister should think along those lines despite the brilliance of Neuer.
